Do you remember
those leaked pictures, which were showing the version of the mysterious
Windows Mobile, which is pre-installed on the Sony Ericsson's new handset Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1? I think you do :) So now it's official...
Sony Ericsson officially has confirmed that the first
XPERIA branded
smartphone will be running Windows Mobile 6.1 together with Sony Ericsson’s unique XPERIA panel user interface (UI).
With the XPERIA's new dashboard, operators will be able to custom build the touch panels that run on the Sony Ericsson X1 to provide consumers with a rich, aggregated offering of their applications and services. In addition, Sony Ericsson also plans to align with key partners around the panel technology to enable them to develop exciting applications that can be enjoyed by users on the XPERIA X1.

I am speechless. This is one of the most awesome handsets I've ever seen!
Today I got a really (and I mean really :D) interesting e-mail from someone seeming to be one of
our readers. The e-mail mentioned some warm words about our blog and contained one very interesting picture. Is this a leaked (or spy) photo of the upcoming handset from
Sony Ericsson?
To me, this device seems to be a high-end handset from the XPERIA line.
To be honest, when I first saw this photo, I thought that it was not yet announced Paris (Sony Ericsson P5) and my gladness had no borders. I've been waiting for P5 for quite long, but the device on the photo is obviously a new High-End XPERIA handset!... And this is why I think so.
First off all, I think you'll agree that the whole look of the handset resembles that of the recently announced Sony Ericsson X1. Second, it's obviously based on Windows Mobile OS. The picture on the screen speaks the same... And I think Paris (Sony Ericsson P5) or Sony Ericsson's other smartphone from P series will be based on Symbian UIQ and not WM.
So let's look at the photo and consider it.
Look at this HUGE screen, it's much bigger than X1's and believe me - the screen of the X1 is big :) and its obviously touchscreen.
As you can see, the form factor of the device is horizontal slider (Like Sony Ericsson X1) and there are no buttons on the front side of the phone!!! This means that the screen is touch sensitive and it doesn't need buttons (Like iPhone, wow). The capture on the screen is unknown to me. As I know, X1 has a different UI, at least this one is different from that, which was shown on the presentation of the handset. But the opened tabs are almost the same as on X1 screen, which was shown on the 3GSM.
The keyboard pretty much looks like that of X1, but if we take a closer look, we can notice a little thing on the right side of the keyboard (Look at the #1 mark on the picture). Frankly, I don't have the slightest idea what it is. Maybe a "scroll" button? Or at least I hope so :D Scroll would be great...
Unfortunately I can't see the front camera or the whole left side of the front view, or back view of the phone to tell with which camera is equipped this miracle, but I guess, after those visible specifications, which we can see on this leaked photo, Sony Ericsson never dares to put bad camera, I think there will be at least 5MP one, with Auto Focus.
OK, and at last words about this photo. To be honest, in my own opinion, this phone is too good to be true. At a moment I think that this picture is another fake, but it's so realistic that it's really difficult to be sure. Either way, bravo to the creator of the photo or to the creator of the device. If this is a real device and the one that can be released anytime soon, then not only will this device be iPhone killer, it can be a killer of every high end handset!!! Of course, this assumption is based on the look as I have no idea what the specifications are.
If we manage to get more pictures of the device, we will post them as a follow up.
As always, our readers' comments are welcome.

As you can see, the version of the WM is 6.1, which wasn't announced yet and therefore explains mysteriousness of this system... (It's interesting, what
Microsoft's reaction will be on those photos :) )
Besides of the version of the Windows Mobile, on the photos we also can see the type and speed of the CPU, RAM size, flash size, which was also unknown.
So besides of the official specifications, now we know that, Sony Ericsson X1's operating system is based on
Windows Mobile 6.1 and is equipped with Qualcomm 7200A -
528Mhz CPU, RAM size is 128MB and Flash size is 256MB, data bus is 32bits.

Handset maker
Sony Ericsson is announcing plans for its first
Windows Mobile device, a move aimed at boosting the company's presence in the North American smartphone market.
The first product is a business-oriented phone with a
QWERTY keyboard, but a family of devices is expected. Over time,
Microsoft hopes Sony Ericsson will leverage its camera and music expertise to help build more consumer-oriented devices.
"They've really got some great consumer brands that we'd love to partner with and bring to Windows Mobile," Microsoft Vice President Pieter Knook said in an interview.
Knook acknowledged that
Apple has included some nice features with the
iPhone, particularly in the Web browser, but declined to talk about when Microsoft might incorporate some of those advances.
"We are certainly investing in the browser," Knook said. "We are certainly investing in entertainment scenarios."
Photo handling is another area he identified as important. The most recent version of Windows Mobile allows for photos to be uploaded to Windows Live Spaces, but Knook said there's more work to do on that front.
"That's still an area where the user experience is more cumbersome than it needs to be," Knook said. As for music, Knook noted the company's recent purchase of
Musiwave, as well as the work being done by Microsoft's
Zune team.
"We do envisage that some of those experiences will come to the Windows Mobile platform in the future," Knook said.

Earlier, as we informed, Sony Ericsson was going to release SmartPhones based on the Windows Mobile operating system. This information has been confirmed for now.As it has appeared, the company will not leave development of UIQ - devices, and Windows - SmartPhones will occupy a niche inexpensive, but "smart" phones. New UIQ SmartPhones will be equipped by a greater set of functions, high - quality displays of the high resolution, but you will have to pay a premium price for functionality and comfort. The first devices working under control of Windows Mobile will be released in second half of 2008.And as we have already said, Sony Ericsson Windows Mobile SmartPhones will be provided by HTC (“High Tech Computer” Corporation).

According to a Chinese-language newspaper “Commercial Times”, the HTC (“High Tech Computer” Corporation) will produce Windows Mobile - Smartphones for Sony Ericsson. The first device will appear in 2008 and in total it is planned to release about one million units.
The given information very strange and improbable as Sony Ericsson initially supports platform Symbian.
Volume shipments of the smartphone - Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile-based smartphone and HTC's first ODM orders from a first-tier handset vendor - are expected to top over one million units and to account for 10 - 20 % of HTC's total shipments projected for 2008.
Said the “Commercial Times”.
It is just a rumor, but for now, lets just wait and watch for the news and facts.
