Do you remember the rumors about one more upcoming smartphone from Sony Ericsson with a codename "Bei-Bei"? Of course you do... :) So the pictures of the prototype of the Bei-Bei have been leaked in the internet...
Those pictures are showing some part of the User Interface of the upcoming Symbian UIQ, which should be pre-installed on the Bei-Bei...
As you know, G700 features a 3.2 MP camera on the back and front camera for video calls. It's equipped with a 2.4" 262,144 color TFT touchscreen at a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, with unique single touch control menu. Built-in memory is up to 160MB and supports Memory Stick Micro (M2) for additional memory card.
The size of the housing is 106 x 49 x 13mm and weights 99 grams. G700 is intended to work in UMTS 2100 - GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 networks.

A couple of days ago, USEB has resurrected rumors about much awaited and buried in oblivion - Sony Ericsson P5 (Paris) with new leaked pictures and some specs.
To be honest, in the beginning I had some doubts about its reality. I thought that it was yet another fake (There were too many P5 fakes :) ) But more and more pictures of "Paris" are coming from various sources, so I guess I was wrong :)
Based on those sources and the USEB, which has unveiled the first picture of the Sony Ericsson P5 - it has become known that, the long awaited smartphone from Sony Ericsson - Sony Ericsson P5 runs recently announced Symbian UIQ 3.3...
The form-factor of this device is "Slider" and it's made from metal and mirror-like front panel. Handset is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard (As on Sony Ericsson P1i or Sony Ericsson M600) and features W-LAN 802.11b/g, built-in GPS (With preinstalled Google Maps) and 5MP digital camera with auto focus... Phone also supports 3G networks, Bluetooth and USB 2.0 cable connectivity... What about the screen? It is obviously a touchscreen, but there is no specific information about the resolution or colors, but as for me, to be honest, I expected something bigger than that on the pictures :)
So folks, that's all for now. The specifications that we get here are quite impressive, but for now - there are too many questions without answers. Hopefully, that it is not yet another fake. I look forward for getting further details, so stay tuned and let's see what's going to happen...
Today UIQ Technology announced the availability of UIQ 3.3. It's based on Symbian OS v 9.3 build, making it possible for mobile phone manufacturers to produce different kinds of phones on the same software platform.
It looks like that the new version of the long awaited Opera Mobile 9 will be incorporated in UIQ 3.3. New UIQ includes an extensively enhanced version of Opera browser (9.5) with an improved user experience of browsing on the mobile phone including faster page loads, a new layout engine and a new intuitive user interface including page overview and panning. It also includes a Widget Manager making it possible to see, run, download and remove widgets on the phone.
Some new abilities of the UIQ 3.3:
Full web experience: Opera Mobile 9, with its fast page rendering and its Pan & Zoom functionalities, offers the web experience of a full-scale browser in a mobile environment
UIQ Dashboard: UIQ 3.3 is prepared for mobile widgets and features a dashboard, accessible system wide by pushing the widget button
Opera Widgets: Opera widgets run on UIQ 3.3, offering the user direct access to content and opening up for new mobile services
Unified Messaging Platform: integrated communication experience Java JSR 248 MSA Fullset: Developers can create and deploy a wide range of applications using the Mobile Services Architecture (MSA)
Except of those new futures, UIQ 3.3 opens some new opportunities for developers too.
Antony Edwards, Vice President Developer Product Marketing, Symbian, said:
"UIQ 3.3 will bring a host of new opportunities for developers wanting to innovate on a powerful user interface platform, including new APIs such as SQL. Symbian OS v 9.3 strengthens the offering for handset manufacturers with its robust and scalable OS, enhanced phone performance and hardware capabilities, allowing them to bring differentiated phones to market more quickly."
The beta version of the SDK for UIQ 3.3 on Symbian OS v 9.3 is already available for downloading on developer.uiq.com
I'm glad that we have some news from UIQ - new user interface with new abilities, I only hope that it will be available not for only new Sony Ericsson handsets, but for some old ones, for example for P1i, I really hope...
If you remember, there were some rumors in the Internet that the upcoming version of the Internet browser for mobile smarphones - Opera mobile 9.5, would not be available for older UIQ 3 phones (I mean Sony Ericsson P1i, W960, P990, e.t.c.). People were speculating that the new version would be only for new handsets, like Sony Ericsson G900, G700 or other upcoming phones and that was very bad news for me.
You see, I'm a lucky owner of the Sony Ericsson P1i and I'm using Internet quite often and efficiently on this handset and as we know Opera Mobile is not replaceable in such cases (OK I know, I know that there is also Opera Mini too... But there are some web sites which are simply unusable in Opera Mini)... So i was very happy when I saw this video on the zdnet blog.
This video is demonstrating some new features of the upcoming Opera Mobile 9.5 and guess what? It's running on Sony Ericsson P1i :)
As I have noted, the new smartphones are packed with powerful abilities. Sony Ericsson G700 is equipped with a large 2.4" 262,144 color TFT display at a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, with unique single touch control menu, 3,2 MP camera, built-in memory up to 160mb. G700 is created to enjoy touchscreen text input, Web surfing, calendar and phone navigation. Sony Ericsson G900 is also equipped with the same type of display, but differently from Sony Ericsson G700. It's equipped with a built-in Wi-Fi module and powerful 5.0 MP digital camera with 3x digital zoom, touch Auto focus and Multi-shot function, touch photo album and editor. Perfect for those looking for a one-touch media experience combined with their organizer.

Both smartphones are intended to work in UMTS 2100 and GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 networks and both will be available in selected markets from Q2 2008.
