If you live in Taiwan, you should know that, Sony Ericsson is opening a new flagship store in Taiwan (Grand opening will be tomorrow, on the 10th of May).

Besides of this beautiful store, the interesting thing is the board with a list of the Sony Ericsson device prefix explanation.

From this listing we can learn the meaning of the several prefixes. It looks like that a prefix "G" (If you remember, it's a recently announced line-up of the Sony Ericsson's new devices. The G series were opened with couple of UIQ smartphones: Sony Ericsson G700 and Sony Ericsson G900) means "Generation Web" and as you already know, it contains not only smartphones, but usual phones with enhanced capabilities for Internet usage (Like, recently announced Sony Ericsson G502). The explanation of the "P" is "Pro" (Frankly, I always thought that the meaning of the "P" was PDA :D looks like it's a new meaning) and good news is that there gonna be new devices from P series and it will not be replaced with X series.

What means prefix "X", I guess everybody already knows, it's a high-end "XPERIA" branded line-up with most awaited, Windows Mobile based - Sony Ericsson X1. Prefix "R" means Radio line-up with enhanced Radio capabilities, "W" means old and kind "Walkman" branded line-up and "C" is a new line-up of the famous "Cyber-Shot", C series were opened with couple of new handsets - Sony Ericsson C702 and C905. Prefix "S" has a new meaning "Snapshot" (Old was "Slider"). "T" is a "Style" line, and at last the new prefix "F".

Depending on this list, unannounced prefix "F" means "FUN" and looks like its opening expected in June on the Singapore event, but what exactly means FUN for Sony Ericsson I don't know. Maybe it's a combination of the music, photo shooting/video recording and web browsing, or maybe it's even gaming? Maybe it's an upcoming gaming platform like Nokia's "N-gage" or even long awaited PSP Phone (Or PSPhone)... Hmmm, I don't know :) I guess we need to wait and see...

Anyway, for me, new brand names and new series are only welcome (especially from Sony Ericsson), because it brings some novelties and the novelties is what we always need.

Last year Samsung overtook Motorola as the second-largest phone manufacturer. Now, the flailing Razr-maker risks ceding third place to Sony Ericsson. Oh, my!

Motorola released yet another round of disappointing earnings — profit from continuing operations fell to $111 million from the year-ago $523 million, as handset sales plunged 38 percent.

In his first earnings report as acting CEO, Motorola’s Greg Brown told analysts that the mobile devices unit “remains challenged.” What’s more, Brown warned it would likely be into 2009 before Motorola has a “robust and competitive portfolio.”

If Motorola keeps stumbling and Sony Ericsson marches on, their market positions could soon be reversed. “If Motorola doesn’t bring something entirely new by 2009, you will probably see the switch happening by then,” says Ping Zhao, a telecom analyst with Credit Sights.

Sony Ericsson’s global market share stood at 8.8 percent in the third quarter of 2007, according to technology research firm iSuppli. At the same time, Motorola’s market share slid to 12.7 percent (considerably down from its Q4 2006 height of 22.6 percent). If Sony Ericsson’s plan to make an aggressive push into the United States is successful, it will likely snag even more market share from Motorola, especially considering its multimedia device lineup — much of which is not yet available in the United States — is superior.

Sony Ericsson has approximately 8,000 employees worldwide. With a 43% annual growth rate, it became the fastest-growing mobile vendor in Q3 2006 compared to Motorola with a rate of 39%. In 2007, Sony Ericsson had surpassed Nokia to become the most profitable mobilephone maker in terms of net profit rate, and behind Nokia in gross profit. It had been achieved by her marketshare growth in high end handset market.

Sony Ericsson’s multimedia phones — mainly its Cybershot camera phones and Walkman music devices — are already popular overseas. But because the company makes GSM devices, it has yet to make a dent in the CDMA-heavy U.S. market. The new phones it plans to introduce later this year will be optimized for U.S. networks. The company also said it plans to launch a music phone campaign this summer and push its Cybershot phones in the 2008 holiday season.

Motorola also unveiled several new multimedia devices at CES — including the video-centric Moto Z10 and the Rokr E8 music phone — but Credit Sight’s Zhao was unimpressed.

Let me present you a new concept of Sony Ericsson K660i Cyber-Shot.

In my opinion, the device design is pretty cool, but technical characteristics do not meet modern demands.

As we can see on the picture, concept of K660i is equipped with 2,1 inch QVGA 262k color display, 2mp camera and supports Memory Micro (M2) memory format. We also can see that the device is 3G enabled and equipped with front camera for video calls.

It could be very hard to differentiate it from another model of
Sony Ericsson's Cyber-Shot series - K770i. Basically, the concept designer thinks that it’s only the camera that would make all the difference.

However, I think that if this concept is implemented, it will have great demand and it will find its costumers.

Most of all from Sony Ericsson's mobile phones, I’e always liked K series, classic and pretty cool design, normal sound and what most important, it's the best "CameraPhone" I have ever seen. In short, In my opinion, Sony Ericsson's K series is the best phone series for amateur photographers, practically you have pretty good camera everywhere in your pocket :)

After K810i, I was waiting for next phone with huge interest, I was feeling that Sony Ericsson was making something really interesting and "whoala", K850i comes into the world.

What is K850i and why it's so cool:

The eye-catching K850i boasts an incredible 5 megapixel CybershotTM camera with 16x digital zoom and Xenon flash to enable you to get up close and personal to take some stunning photographs. Taking the perfect photo has been made that much easier with the K850i and once you add in the anti blur technology that comes with the K850i, it really makes it all fool proof. Have you ever wished you'd pressed the camera button just seconds before you actually did to catch that all important image? Well the K850i does that for you - it even takes additional photos after you've pressed the button. BestPicTM takes nine pictures every single time you press the button - 4 before you press the button and an additional 4 afterwards. All you do is choose which ones you want to save. Great for capturing that action shot. Once you've captured that perfect shot you're bound to want to share it, so you can always upload your pictures up on to your own blog site. Life isn't just a series of stills and with the K850i you can also capture video footage and being 3G the handset supports video streaming.

The Sony Ericsson K850i's media player will not only let you enjoy video footage, but also lets you have music wherever you go. You can choose to download music to your handset from the Internet or transfer it via Bluetooth or USB from compatible devices, or via a Memory Plus Memory Stick or MicroSD card. If you find yourself in need of a change of music or indeed with a desperate desire to catch up with the traffic, sports results or news you can always tune into your favourite FM radio station via the K850i's inbuilt FM radio. The K850i can even help you become a musical guru - the person in the know - how many times have you or your mates listened to a track and not known who it was by or what it was called? Well the K850i makes that a problem of the past. By simply recording a few seconds of that elusive track the phone will use TrackIDTM and before you know it you'll have the name of the song, artist and even the album!

The K850i supports both MP3 and polyphonic ringtones which you can download. You can also customise your handset's ringtone by logging on to the PlayNowTM website and selecting your own ringtone. PlayNowTM enables you to try ringtones before you buy them, with the price of the download being shown on your screen and then subsequently charged to your mobile bill should you wish to purchase it. Once you've decided to buy, you can decide how you want to use it - either assigning it to a particular contact or using it as your default ringtone! The PlayNowTM icon shows on your mobile desktop and starts a dynamic web application, without the need to use a browser.

Staying in touch with friends and family is easy with the K850i and there's a choice of methods to suit most people. Apart from the conventional mobile phone call, the K850i, being a 3G mobile handset, enables you to hold face to face video calls; both fun and useful! Additionally you can always choose to keep in touch by sending SMS messages - created using predictive text, or more creative MMS messages incorporating text, images - including sound and your own photographs and video clips. You can even record voice messages and incorporate them into your MMS messages. The K850i also supports Push Email enabling you to send emails but more importantly receives emails direct into your inbox, with out the need for you to log on.

The K850i's 3G technology will provide you with exceptionally fast broadband Internet speeds and coupled with its EDGE technology transfer speeds of up to 3 times faster than GPRS may be achieved. Not only can you transfer and upload data, but you can also surf the Internet, as well as receive RSS feeds giving you the chance to stay up-to-date with all the latest news and sports information.
