If you remember, there were some rumors in the Internet that the upcoming version of the Internet browser for mobile smarphones - Opera mobile 9.5, would not be available for older UIQ 3 phones (I mean Sony Ericsson P1i, W960, P990, e.t.c.). People were speculating that the new version would be only for new handsets, like Sony Ericsson G900, G700 or other upcoming phones and that was very bad news for me.

You see, I'm a lucky owner of the Sony Ericsson P1i and I'm using Internet quite often and efficiently on this handset and as we know Opera Mobile is not replaceable in such cases (OK I know, I know that there is also Opera Mini too... But there are some web sites which are simply unusable in Opera Mini)... So i was very happy when I saw this video on the zdnet blog.

This video is demonstrating some new features of the upcoming Opera Mobile 9.5 and guess what? It's running on Sony Ericsson P1i :)

Can’t wait to try it out.

It's too little, too late...

I'm a P1i owner too, but I feel that UIQ is a dead platform and SE killed it with the release of a WinMobile device. Every developer I know is scrambling because they think that there will be no more new UIQ devices and that SE is moving to WinMobile as a whole.

I'm getting an iPhone!! Especially now with 2.0 supporting exchange.

Hi schack

I can't agree with you... I don't think that UIQ is dead :) On the contrary, it's getting more and more powerful and of course don't forget that beside of the Sony Ericsson X1, SE is also going to release two powerful UIQ based handsets - Sony Ericsson G700 and G900. And what about BeiBei or Paris (P5)? I feel otherwise, in the future with the new version of the UIQ, there will be more and more UIQ handsets and not only from Sony Ericsson ;)

Of course WM is powerful OS, but SE will never replace its UIQ with WM, no, I don't think so... :)
