The first day of world's largest international consumer technology tradeshow appeared to be quite fertile for Sony Electronics (yes, SE is rebranded as Sony), with its President and COO, Phil Molyneux unveiling their most recent Android smartphone, the Sony Xperia Ion.

Promising to experience pure entertainment in brilliant HD, Sony Xperia Ion is quite easy to fall in love with! The phone hooks up into the 4G LTE network of AT&T, being available this spring. The 12MP camera to capture your memories in less than a second and an extremely thin design grabbed the attention of many, without a hands-on look at the device.

Other noteworthy specs include a 4.6-inch HD touchscreen, HDMI-out, plus an interface for a TV launcher and a 1280×720 display that makes use of Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine – suspected to be the same technology as to Sony’s line of Bravia TVs.

A compatible dock, the Xperia Ion comes with, enables larger display viewing, and when attached to a TV, users have the ability to play music, view photos and even send out SMS messages from the Xperia Ion to the TV- controlled using any TV remote!

As for the external appearance -  Xperia Ion comes housed in an aluminum shell that's promoted as "thin, lightweight, and durable" and the screen is one of Sony's so-called Mobile Bravia Reality Display modules — a technology offering a laminated, gapless appearance.

A release date and price on the Xperia Ion is yet to be announced by Sony, but look for it to launch on AT&T this spring, and don't worry — an Android Ice Cream Sandwich is already in the works!

Sony Ericsson hopes to combine its smartphone savvy with its gaming experience to produce a hit with the Xperia Play, one of the first smartphone offerings to cater directly to the gaming crowd. Released in May in most countries, the Xperia Play looks like any other smartphone at first glance but it packs a powerful gaming punch, including a set of dedicated gaming controls that let you enjoy more than 50 PlayStation games on the 4” touch screen. More games are on the way for the Xperia Play and the fact that it’s powered by Android means you’ll also have the option to download other apps and games, opening the door for enjoying Internet blackjack, poker, and other casino games.

Powered by Google’s Gingerbread OS, the slider offers many of the smartphone features that consumers have come to expect. While the phone side of it won’t bowl anyone over, it’s obviously the gaming side where the Xperia Play shines. It comes with two dedicated keypad controls similar to the PSP Go and comes pre-loaded with game titles such as Asphalt Adrenaline 6, Bruce Lee, Star Battalion, The Sims 3, and Tetris. Additional game content is available through the PlayStation Suite platform, as the Xperia Play is one of a handful of devices that is PlayStation Certified, which ensures that all games available via the PlayStation Suite are compatible and will run smoothly on the Xperia Play.

Like any Android smartphone or tablet, owners will also be able to download and play a variety of apps and games in addition to PlayStation titles. Android devices have been a popular choice for online gaming fans who enjoy poker and casino games such as online slot machines; while Apple is very restrictive about approving gambling apps for the App Store the Android Market has to date been much more wide open, with more online gaming sites unveiling Android apps that let users take part in real money poker games as well as online sportsbetting and other popular casino games.
